| Welcome |
Hi! I’m Dr. Rebecca Gallagher, the owner and founder of View Halloo.
Like many of you, my love of horses began when I was very young. I was bitten by the horse bug at the ripe old age of six. To this day, my parents still blame our next door neighbors for taking me out to the barn and returning me home mere hours later begging for a pony. It was all downhill from there (if you ask my dad) … or uphill if you ask me!
My parents wanted to ensure that I was invested in my riding, so I worked at a local barn in exchange for lessons and rode competitively on the Wisconsin Hunter/Jumper circuit throughout high school. I was a barn rat in every sense of the word.
I took a (painful, yet necessary) 12-year hiatus from horses to complete medical school and residency, but always knew that when time and finances allowed, I would return to the ring. And return I did almostly immediately following the completion of my residency. I needed horses more than ever. The barn became my oasis ... it was the place I would go to escape the stresses of the day, where the highs and lows of being a doctor would melt away and where I felt most connected to myself.
I currently own and compete Segundo Sombra (“Enzo,”) an 11 year old Selle Francais gelding, in the adult jumper divisions and enjoy watching my four- year- old daughter, Beatrice, share in the sport as well. I can often be spotted walking the course with my trusty sidekick, Henry, an elderly poodle I rescued a few years ago, tucked into my backpack.
I live, work and (of course) ride horses outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I double as an integrative family medicine doctor. In my spare time I serve as “Head Wrangler” of the Gallagher Family petting zoo, which consists of 2 guinea pigs, 2 dogs, 2 rabbits, 1 Maine Coon cat, 1 tortoise and a tank full of fish.
View Halloo was born from the concept that some of our best moments in life are related to our time with our horses, and that these memories deserve to be kept in a place where they can be recalled and referenced for years to come. I launched View Halloo in the fall of 2017 with our feature product, the Equestrian Competition Journal. But be sure to stay tuned as there is so much more to come!
Cheers to a happy, healthy and successful 2018!
